This is going to be an awesome year for your 2nd grade student. My tip for the first week of school is to get your child on a routine beginning Sunday night. Read your child a bedtime story and get them to bed early. Tell them they are going to want to be rested and eager to see what their year is going to be like in 2nd grade. Each day, especially this first week, be sure and ask your child what we talked about in school. Ask them what the classroom rules and privileges are. Ask them how much reading they should be doing. Ask them how long homework is expected to take each evening. Ask them if they will have homework on the weekends. (They will like the answer to this!)<br /><br />I will be telling all of you the answers to these questions on back to school night which is this Thursday, August 16, but it is great to get your child in the habit of telling you what is going on at school. I will be helping you stay in touch with everything we are doing in the classroom by giving you helpful hints of questions to ask your child each week.<br /><br />Feel free to post any comments, questions, or responses here throughout the year.
